Reading: charts and diagrams
Charts and diagrams show information in pictures. They help us understand numbers and facts quickly. Common types are bar charts, pie charts, line graphs and tables.
A bar chart uses bars of different heights. Taller bar means bigger number. Example: a chart shows how many students like each sport. Football has the tallest bar, so most students like football.
A pie chart looks like a circle cut into slices. Each slice is a part of the whole. Example: 50% of students like reading, 25% like sport, 25% like music.
A line graph shows how something changes over time. The line goes up or down. Example: temperature in Almaty from January to June.
When you read a chart, first look at the title. Then read the labels and numbers. Compare the parts and find the biggest and the smallest. This helps you answer questions correctly.
